The problems of craftsmen was discussed with the ministry of interior

25/09/2008

A delegation of FACT headed by Mohammad Hassan Sepahi, the president of craftsmen and Traders Union of Afghanistan, meet lieutenant General Muneer Mangal, deputy director of security department, ministry of interior, in his office. The president of FACT discussed with him the craftsmen problems emerging from the blockade of roads leading to the ministry of interior inflicting a serious blow on their business. He also discussed the closing of tailoring shops which had been working there to produce uniforms for military officers for the past 100 years and he also raised the problem of shipment of goods in the city. The president of FACT argued that any security measures that threatens and hampers the activities of the craftsmen gives raise to unemployment and creates gap between government and civilians.
The craftsmen not only condemn terrorism but also are willing to cooperate with government and police to maintain peace and security in the country. Creation of job opportunities is one of important factors for maintenance of security. The deputy director of security department spoke about the role of the craftsmen for the economic development of Afghanistan as well as their role in removal of the needs of the people of Afghanistan and added: ‘I personally endorse your ideas. Road closure is not the key solution for maintenance of peace but considering the recent events, some measures have been taken which has created problems to people on short term. We will try to remove the restrictions imposed on the roads as soon as possible’. With regard to the military uniform tailors, e said: ‘submit a complete list of the names of these tailors to the ministry of interior so that permission is given to them to reopen their shops’. With regard to the transportation problem of the craftsmen, he specified a route through which the craftsmen could ship their goods and products.
At the end of the meeting, the president of FACT thanked lieutenant General Munir Gul for his kindly cooperation. It should be mentioned that Mr. Noor-ul-Haq Omari, vice-president of FACT, Azizullah Rasoolzai, Craftsmen Rights Defender, and representatives of handicraft producers were also present in this meeting.
