Company Profile The Craftsmen/Traders National Union of Afghanistan (CTNUA) · CTNUA is a social, non-governmental, and non-profit organization. · It is made up of the voluntary unity of different guilds. · It operates according to the article 35 of the constitution of Afghanistan as well as the law of social organizations. · In addition to having a headquarter office in Kabul city, it has got branches in 14 provinces and 5 districts, which has organized 37400 individual craft shops and service providing units from around the country into 350 guild unions. Efforts are being made to attract more craftsmen to CTNUA and to establish more provincial councils. The main objectives of CTNUA: · Promotion of the quantity and quality of the Afghanistan craftsmen products as well as to enable them provide better services · Promotion of the socioeconomic status of the craftsmen and their families · Rehabilitation and development of handicrafts · Standardization of the products · Provision of job opportunities for Afghans
For realization of the above objectives, CTNUA bears a responsibility to: · Defend the rights and interests of the craftsmen before state authorities, judiciaries, NGOs and other persons · Render them better services and help them with words and deeds CTNUA provides the following services to the member guilds through the Business Development Service Center (BDSC) set up with technical and financial support of GTZ: 1 - Credit Counseling This service has already become a good market, in which the provider presents a credit workshop, evaluation of business and Introducing of them to banks and follow up to find out the outcome of credit for their businesses. 2 - Internet Courses In this service, we are providing business information for business from worldwide, training of Business to internet, Developing Websites for Businesses those who are interested to have Website, registering businesses to alibab.com and popular business website. 3 - Industry Intervention This service is offering information about different industries in which they need technological improvement. At the first time we do our assessments of that industry and then we do one intervention after test, we develop a plan including: Costs, benefits, loses, to distribute the plan for the same industries then she/ he can use from that accurate information and plan. Up to present, 125 bakeries have changed to Gas, 12 sweet producers changed to gas, 30 Humans (public baths) also now use the new system. But the viability calculation needs to be verified again under the new cost levels. 4 - Export and Marketing This services offer information, services and training for businesses who want to know about marketing and who have production for exporting, and this service connects potential export businesses to EPAA. 5 - Empowerment of businesswomen This is an especially established department engaged in supporting of our female members as well as increasing of economic involvement of women in the market. Furthermore, CTNUA hold training workshops and courses, now and then, to develop the vocational skills of the member craftsmen. CTNUA publishes a monthly magazine of 5000 copies which is titled as “Peshawar” for its members. The organizational structure of CTNUA · Guilds make the foundation of CTNUA. They are administered by city and provincial councils. · The highly authorized position of CTNUA is its general assembly meeting, held every other 3 year, where important decisions are taken and a new leadership is elected. · The central Council has a duty to run the affairs of CTNUA in the period between two general assembly meetings. · All of the activities of CTNUA are based on the principles of democracy (volunteer membership, the right to elect or be elected in all positions of CTNUA). A glance at the history of CTNUA CTNUA is the one of the oldest social organizations of the country which was set up in 1987 in the first general assembly meeting attended by 600 representatives from around the country. The 2nd general assembly meeting was held in March 2006 with the participation of 220 elected representatives from around the country, which introduced CTNUA as an organization which provides services and defends the rights and interests of the craftsmen which plays key role in the economic development of Afghanistan. It also amended some parts of the former statute of CTNUA and elected a new leadership through a fair and free election.
